Christmas in California is wrong. Too warm, even at night. Spike watches them put up the tree, sharing the perspective with an ugly garden gnome and smoking too much. He'd kick the gnome just to hear something break that's not part of him, but Buffy might like the damn thing, so he doesn't. Tonight she won't come. Tonight is for friends and family and he's neither. Tomorrow night, after patrol, she'll rip off his clothes like an eager child rips through the wrapping paper on Christmas morning. But she won't smile.
He sighs and turns to leave. "Merry Christmas, Buffy."
